Methodology:
A comprehensive review of Data as a Service (DaaS) companies was conducted to determine whether they offer programs or resources for academic use. This review primarily focused on data providers rather than tools for data manipulation or analysis. In addition, secondary sources such as the WRDS and Dewey websites were consulted to identify indirect channels of data access. Publicly available datasets and archives were excluded from this initial phase of the research.
Further insight was gained from a study by Edward Junhao Lim (University of Connecticut) and Jiebei Luo (New York University), which analyzed over 500 journal articles published between 2020 and 2022 authored by researchers at NYU Stern School of Business and the UConn School of Business. Their research proved invaluable, as they compiled a detailed list of datasets cited in these articles, expanding the pool of data providers contributing to academic research.
